Episode Guide

As you can tell, from an early age Card Sharks was one of my favorite shows. This episode guide probably will not cover all 864 shows from the NBC run, but will show some of the highlights. If you can fill any gaps or see any errors that need correction, click here to fill me in.

1978 1979 1980 1981

For the first few months, the decks were shuffled and cut by the stagehands (with NBC Standards & Practices presiding) in front of the players before airtime. After each show, any cards that were face-up were left on the board; the rest of the decks, including changed and discarded cards were shuffled back in. In the Money Cards, a player has only one chance to change a card--the base card on the bottom level. Also, in the first six shows, Jim Perry calls his question "robot" R2D2.

By this time, to make the game more fair, the contestants cut their cards before each match in front of the audience. Each player cuts two decks, one for the match and one for the Money Cards. Whoever wins the match plays their deck in the Money Cards, and he/she can now change the base card on each level. Finally, if the show ends with a game in progress, the unexposed cards are placed back on top of the decks in reverse order so the board will be exactly as it was when the dealers load the board to start the next show.
